5th Grade Math this week....
- November Number Corner-- This month we will be looking at how to classify triangles based on lengths of sides and angles. In addition we will be locating the position of these triangles on a coordinate grid to learn about ordered pairs. Finally, we will also be using the metric system and comparing how meters relate to centimeters, decimeters, decameters and kilometers.
- This week we started Unit 3 with some adding and subtracting decimals using money and multiplying/dividing by 10. Then we talked about place values of whole numbers and decimals and making connections between the values. Finally, we worked with making models of, reading, writing and comparing decimals.
- Next week we will continue with the work as well as look at how to round decimals to different place values.
Literacy this week....
- This week we worked on analyzing a model monologue and then using this to help us begin putting together our group monologues using scenes from the book Esperanza Rising.
- We did some peer critique with one another to help revise our monologues.
- We also did some work with perfect verb tenses.
- Our theme for this first quarter is Human Rights.
Science this week....
- Our new unit is: Modeling Matter
- Our guiding question for this unit is: What happens when two substances are mixed together?
- For our first chapter we are examining: Why did the food coloring separate into different dyes?
