5th Grade Math this week....
- January Number Corner--This month we will be focusing on multiplication and addition of fractions as it relates to time and money. We will also be working with numerical patterns and graphing.
- This week we really focused on making that shift from strategies to the algorithm. They are doing great! Ask your kiddo to show you some problems.
- For example: 36 x 42 box/array method ratio table algorithm
- Next week, we will have a quiz and also do some more work with estimation and writing story problems.
Literacy this week....
- Our theme for Module 2--Rainforests.
- This week we jumped back into our literacy curriculum. We talked about recognizing and explaining meaning with our figurative language, an author's point of view, and then wrote some comparison paragraphs for both.
- Next week we will focus on recognizing and using concrete language in our texts and writing and practicing our fluency.
Science this week....
- We are taking a break from science for a few weeks.
Social Studies this week....
- We are doing a mini-unit on Native American Histories and Stories
- The text we are using is called Mountain Wolf Woman by Diana Holliday
- This week we continued reading the text, looking at vocabulary words, and did some comparison venn diagrams based on activities done traditionally by the Ho-Chunk community and our own families.
