5th Grade Math this week....
- March Number Corner--This month we will continue to look at area, but by multiplying with decimals instead of fractions. We will also do some data collection and line plots. Finally we will learn a form of bingo involving division with decimals.
- April Number Corner--(Coming soon!!) This month will involve more work with volume once again. Students will also work with fractions as related to time and money. In addition, they will review learning on their understanding of decimals and number sense.
- This week we worked with volume of rectangular prisms, measuring, coordinate grids and area. Using all of these, students were asked to relate these concepts to some real life story problems.
- After Spring Break, we will finish up Unit 6!
Literacy this week....
- Module 3--Athletes Leaders of Social Change
- This week we started Unit 2 in class.
- Students listened to speakers, had to take notes and summarize what the speakers said.
- Students also spent some time discussion and exploring point of view from a text/speaker and how that can influence a reader/listener.
- Students wrote more summaries :)
Science this week....
- We have completed our third science unit-Earth Systems!
- Before we jump into our final science unit of the year, we are going to take a small break to do some other projects.
- After Spring Break, we will use this science/social studies time to prepare for our Student Led Conferences on April 13th.
- We will also take some time to learn and practice some skill around mapping.
- Our final unit in science, Ecosystem Restoration, will begin the week of April 17th.
