New News......

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to attend your child's conference this week!  We are looking forward to great end to 5th grade.

Oldie, but goodies ..... 

  • We have created a 5th Grade Asynchronous Classroom in Google Classroom that they will be able to access.  Activities will be assigned every Monday at 1 pm (8:00 am for Monday, April 10th).  Please let your teacher know if you would prefer paper copies of some activities instead.
  • Film Festival Update:  We were informed over Spring Break that this festival will be 81 minutes long vs. the 60 minutes they originally told us.  We will be arriving back to Randall by lunch time at 11:45.
  • Our classrooms will be starting/ have started Human Growth and Development in our classrooms.  

Forward Testing Schedule

5th Grade Math this week....

  • April Number Corner--This month will involve more work with volume once again.  Students will also work with fractions as related to time and money.  In addition, they will review learning on their understanding of decimals and number sense. 
  • This week we used some of our math time for Forward testing and begin Unit 7 which will include multiplication and division of whole numbers, decimals and fractions. 
  • Next week we will be focusing on strategies for division.

Literacy this week....

  • Module 3--Athletes Leaders of Social Change
  • Students also spent time discussing and exploring how to form and support an opinion based on a text. 
  • Next week, students will work to complete this unit by writing an opinion based essay and engage in peer reviews.
Social Studies this week....
  • This week we will take some time to learn and practice some skill around mapping in addition to practicing for our conferences.
  • Our final unit in science, Ecosystem Restoration, will begin next week!
  • Ecosystem Restoration Unit Question:  How do organisms in an ecosystem get the matter and energy they need to grow and thrive?
  • Ecosystem Restoration Chapter One Question:  Why aren't jaguars and sloths growing and thriving?

SELS this week...

  • Randall's behavior incentive goal for April is Extra Recess
  •  We are focusing on being an ally!!
