- Would you like to volunteer on field trips or in the classroom? If so, MMSD is now requiring everyone to have a Level 2 certification. What does this mean? Please check out the link. Fair warning....it is time consuming. If you were a level 2 last year, you will receive a email to "renew" before it expires. (This is quite easy to do is what we hear. ) Interested in volunteering at Randall or chaperoning a field trip with your student's class? - start the process by visiting the Volunteering page at MMSD’s website.
5th Grade Math this week....
- For Number Corner this month, we are focussing on showing the relationship between decimals and fractions using money and time. We are also starting to notice how equivalent fractions and decimals are made. In addition, the concept of volume is introduced while we work with three dimensions of measurement on paper and with our cubes.
- Our first unit of study is on Multiplication and Volume. This week we worked with numerical expressions and even took our first checkpoint on this. We also worked with area, volume and surface area.
Literacy this week....
- We started Week One of our new literacy curriculum. Our theme for this first quarter is Human Rights. This week we spent quite a bit of time developing norms and protocols for group discussions and work. We were also able to jump into our Module 1 text Esperanza Rising. Slow and steady wins the race with our close reading and reflective responses.
- Great video that we watched today to get us geared up for this first Module https://www.
